Hazelnut

Hazelnut oil is a light, nutrient-rich oil pressed from hazelnuts, valued in skincare for its moisturizing, astringent, and antioxidant properties, driven by its high oleic acid and vitamin E content.

DESCRIPTION

Hazelnut oil is extracted from the nuts of Corylus avellana, the common hazel tree, native to Europe and western Asia, with significant cultivation in Turkey, Italy, and Oregon, USA. Obtained through cold-pressing, this golden-yellow oil has a mild, nutty aroma and a smooth, non-greasy texture. It’s composed primarily of oleic acid (about 75–85%), linoleic acid (10–15%), and smaller amounts of palmitic acid, alongside vitamin E (tocopherols), phytosterols, and polyphenols. In skincare, hazelnut oil is a versatile ingredient in moisturizers, serums, cleansers, and body oils, appearing as "hazelnut oil," "Corylus avellana seed oil," or "hazel seed oil." Its fast-absorbing nature makes it suitable for all skin types, particularly oily or acne-prone skin, due to its astringent qualities that help regulate sebum. The oil’s emollient properties also nourish dry skin, while its antioxidant profile supports anti-aging benefits. Its subtle scent enhances formulations, often paired with other oils or actives for balanced efficacy and appeal.

BENEFITS

Hazelnut oil offers several skincare benefits:

Moisturizing: Oleic acid hydrates and softens skin, strengthening the skin barrier without a heavy feel, ideal for dry or combination skin.
Oil Control: Its astringent properties tighten pores and regulate sebum production, reducing shine and helping manage oily or acne-prone skin.
Antioxidant Protection: Vitamin E and polyphenols neutralize free radicals, protecting against environmental damage and minimizing fine lines or dullness.
Soothing: Mild anti-inflammatory effects calm irritation and redness, benefiting sensitive skin or minor blemishes.
Lightweight Nourishment: It absorbs quickly, delivering nutrients like fatty acids and vitamins for a smooth, healthy complexion without clogging pores.
Note: Hazelnut oil is generally non-comedogenic, but those with nut allergies should patch-test due to its origin. It’s lightweight but may need pairing with richer oils for very dry skin.
