Macadamia Integrifolia

Macadamia nut oil is a rich, nourishing oil extracted from the nuts of the Macadamia Integrifolia tree, prized in skincare for its deep moisturizing, antioxidant, and skin-repairing properties, thanks to its unique fatty acid profile.
DESCRIPTION
Macadamia Integrifolia, commonly known as the macadamia nut tree, is an evergreen species native to the rainforests of eastern Australia, now also cultivated in Hawaii, South Africa, and other subtropical regions. The oil is derived through cold-pressing the creamy, white nuts, producing a golden, silky oil with a subtle, nutty aroma. It’s rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, particularly palmitoleic acid (up to 16–23%, rare in plant oils), oleic acid (around 55–65%), and smaller amounts of linoleic acid, alongside vitamin E, squalene, and phytosterols. In skincare, macadamia nut oil is a luxurious ingredient in moisturizers, face oils, creams, balms, and hair products, listed as "macadamia nut oil," "Macadamia Integrifolia seed oil," or "macadamia oil." Its velvety texture mimics the skin’s natural sebum, allowing it to penetrate deeply while leaving a non-greasy finish, making it especially beneficial for dry, mature, or damaged skin. Its stability and emollient qualities also make it a favored carrier oil in natural formulations, often blended with lighter oils or actives for broader appeal.
BENEFITS
Macadamia nut oil offers several skincare benefits:
Deep Moisturization: High palmitoleic and oleic acid content mimics skin’s natural lipids, providing intense hydration, softening rough patches, and restoring suppleness, ideal for dry or flaky skin.
Anti-Aging: Palmitoleic acid (which decreases with age in human skin) and vitamin E boost elasticity, reduce fine lines, and protect against oxidative stress, promoting a youthful appearance.
Skin Repair: It supports the skin barrier and aids in healing irritation, scars, or minor damage, thanks to its emollient and regenerative properties.
Antioxidant Protection: Squalene and vitamin E shield skin from free radicals and environmental stressors, helping prevent premature aging and dullness.
Soothing and Non-Irritating: Its gentle, anti-inflammatory nature calms sensitive or inflamed skin, making it suitable for eczema, sunburn, or post-procedure care.
Note: Macadamia nut oil is generally non-comedogenic but richer than some oils, so it may feel heavy on very oily or acne-prone skin unless used sparingly or diluted. Those with nut allergies should patch-test due to its origin.
